Epic Games is shutting down Fortnite’s servers in November

Following crackdowns on various technology-oriented industries in China, Epic Games has decided to remove the viral survival game from the country.

Officials in Beijing have been implementing measures to reduce gaming addiction amongst Chinese population, resulting in a drop in the profits generated by video games and in companies’ share prices.

A version of Fortnite created specifically to align with China’s policies had been up for beta testing in the country since 2018. Yet, no green light was given for the game to be officially launched and now the servers are set to be shut down on November 15th.

Several fans have expressed their sadness over the decision on social media with some requesting Epic Games to move their data to overseas servers so it wouldn’t be completely lost.
