Twitch has unveiled new and more suitable classifications for streams targeting an adult audience

Twitch is following in the footsteps of Roblox by introducing new categorizations for streams aimed at a more mature audience. Content moderation is a significant concern for platforms, creators, users, and brands, with fears of exposing young viewers to inappropriate content.

Roblox recently added a category for users aged 17 and older, and now Twitch is unveiling new categories to better classify mature content. These categories will help streamers and their audience find appropriate channels while protecting minors and allowing advertisers to target specific audiences.

Streamers will need to specify the classification of their streams, including themes such as mature games, violence and strong language. Failure to add the appropriate descriptors may result in warnings, but Twitch will not suspend channels. In addition, the visibility of streams will not be affected, ensuring content continues to be accessible to viewers. This new classification could however impact streamers' advertising revenue.
