“The Smurfs: Ocean Cleanup” wants to sensitise gamers about marine pollution

Dutch game developer Azerion has launched a new project inspired by the “Smurfs” whose aim is to sensitise players to marine pollution.

The video game, which is called “The Smurfs: Ocean Cleanup”, tasks gamers to help the little blue characters on their quest to clean the ocean by fishing for waste material. For each piece of junk that players collect, they will receive special coins to improve the gear of their character.

“The Smurfs: Ocean Cleanup” was created in partnership with two NGOs, namely Surfrider Foundation and NL Cares. According to Azerion, the “Smurfs” were chosen for this game because they are the ambassadors of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
