‘Space Invaders: World Defense’ will be available for download on Google Play and the App Store soon

‘Space Invaders’ the iconic arcade game that took the world by storm in 1978, is making a comeback with a modern twist in an augmented reality (AR) mobile game. Taito, the Japanese publisher behind the original game, is set to launch ‘Space Invaders: World Defense’ this summer, aiming to captivate a new generation of gamers.

Leveraging Google's ARCore technology, the game offers an immersive experience by seamlessly integrating 3D objects into the real-world environment, utilizing topological data from Google's satellite image database.

In this AR adaptation, players embark on a quest to hunt down and eliminate aliens attacking their surroundings. By pointing their smartphone cameras at potential alien hotspots, players will witness the pixelated invaders seamlessly blending into the real-world scenery. The game takes advantage of recent advancements in augmented reality technology, offering a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

‘Space Invaders: World Defense’ will be available for download on both Android via Google Play and iOS through the App Store later this summer. The release follows Google Maps' foray into the realm of ARCore technology, highlighting the potential and growing interest in incorporating augmented reality into everyday experiences.

With this mobile-based revival, ‘Space Invaders’ aims to reignite the public's fascination with augmented reality gaming beyond the phenomenon of Pokémon GO. As nostalgia merges with cutting-edge technology, players can look forward to an immersive encounter with the iconic aliens of "Space Invaders" within their own real-world surroundings.
