Cult memes are being sold as NFTs

Memes are no longer only made for jokes as they enter the world of NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Some of the most classic memes are currently sold for large sums of money.

Memes are known for their timeless replayability and viral factor. They are also an integral part of internet culture. One of the most popular memes is “Disaster Girl”, showcasing Zoë Roth with a mischievous smile in front of a burning house. This meme, which is famous around the world, has recently been sold for 180 Ethereum on the Foundation platform. This converts to approximately $567,000.

The popularity of this trend has given rise to the “Memeconomy” or meme economy where some of the most emblematic memes are sold as NFTs, including “Keyboard Cat” and “Bad Luck Brian”.

According to Ben Lashes, who manages the creators of these cult memes, his clients have raised over $2 million in NFTs from the sales.
