Microsoft Mesh will share holographic renderings of people in real time

Microsoft is currently setting the stage for a future in which long-distance co-workers can collaborate as though in the same room, using augmented-reality glasses and cloud-computing power.

This initiative is called Microsoft Mesh. It is meant to connect the physical and digital worlds, transcending the boundaries of space and time. During the presentation, Microsoft also unveiled HoloLens. It is an augmented reality eyewear which will provide digital imagery on real-world settings.

The goal of Microsoft is for people to use Mesh and share holographic experiences in real time, no matter how far apart they may be. Users will initially appear as avatars in Mesh, but, in the future, they will be able to project lifelike holograms of themselves.

This technology can also be added to video games. For instance, Niantic is aiming to use HoloLens in its popular mobile game, “Pokémon GO”.
