Remedy entertainment expands into TV and film with Annapurna partnership

'Alan Wake' and 'Control' games make their debut in film and TV adaptations

In a groundbreaking move, Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish studio behind "Alan Wake" and "Control", has secured a partnership with US production company Annapurna to bring these popular games to TV and film. Annapurna will manage the adaptations and partially fund "Control 2", the sequel to the 2019 game focused on paranormal investigations.

This deal comes at a time when video game adaptations like "The Last of Us" and "Fallout" have achieved critical acclaim and large audiences, sparking interest in other game-to-screen transitions. While the 2008 film adaptation of Remedy's "Max Payne" had mixed reviews, the studio's rich narratives in "Alan Wake" and "Control" offer fresh potential.

Megan Ellison, founder of Annapurna, highlighted the shift in storytelling, emphasizing that audiences are captivated by engaging characters and immersive worlds, not just formats. This partnership allows Remedy to maintain its independence while expanding its franchises into new media, even as the gaming industry faces significant challenges.
