World of Warcraft reignites nostalgia with long-awaited return to China

How do gamers embrace the nostalgia with 'World of Warcraft' making its comeback in China?

Fans of 'World of Warcraft' in China are experiencing a wave of nostalgia as the iconic game makes its long-awaited return to the country.

In a long-awaited comeback, "World of Warcraft" reappeared on Chinese screens this Thursday, reigniting fond memories for many fans. The return of this iconic fantasy game follows a hiatus that began in January 2023 due to a contractual disagreement between Blizzard and its former local partner, NetEase. The suspension of popular games like "Overwatch" left many players disheartened.

After recent negotiations, Blizzard and NetEase have restored their partnership, leading to the sequential re-release of their titles, with "World of Warcraft" kicking off on August 1. At a bustling internet cafe in Beijing, 35-year-old Wei Jia expressed his excitement, reminiscing about the joy and nostalgia that the game brings.

Liu Haoran, a 30-year-old media professional, shared his enthusiasm about the game's return, highlighting cherished memories of friendships and adventures in the expansive world of Azeroth. Despite his busy schedule, he remains fond of the game and its impact on his life.

The revival of Blizzard games is also a significant boost for NetEase, which has faced challenges amid recent regulatory pressures. For many players like Wei, the return of "World of Warcraft" signifies a joyful reconnection with their gaming past and old friends, bringing a sense of closure and renewed excitement.
