Qatar is looking to expand into esports

In an attempt to diversify its economy by the year 2030, Qatar is trying to launch its local gamers into the field of esports.

The host for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup has set its sights on the esports sector as its next venture. It sets up its first gaming complex, named Virtuocity, in 2019 and organised the opening round of the Smash World Tour earlier this year. As a reward for the winner of the Nintendo fighting tournament, Qatar offered $1300 as the prize.

It even launched an esports federation last year and is encouraging students to explore digital avenues by including gaming in the curriculum of Qatar’s International School of London.
