37 “Counter-Strike” coaches were banned last month by the ESIC

The world of esports has been booming in the last couple of years. Just as the industry is growing, so does the financial gains at stake and fighting attempts at cheating. For pro-players, maintaining the integrity of the sector is crucial for its future.

Last month, a scandal broke over a “Counter-Strike” event whereby 37 team coaches were sanctioned by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) after being found to have exploited a bug in the game to spy on rival teams’ strategy.

This decision took the whole esport industry by surprise. However, with championships such as “Fortnite’s” World Cup where gamers can earn millions of dollars, it is important to promote integrity. According to ESIC, esports need to be clean and a fair competition for all.
