New foreign video games get approved in China

Amidst China’s crackdown on the video game industry since last year, foreign video games had been struggling for approval. After waiting for more than a year, 44 titles have been finally given the green light.

Implemented as a means to reduce the time that minors were spending on video games, China’s tightening of its regulations for this industry included a limit on the online play-time of those aged less than 18 and stricter guidelines for game approval. No new foreign titles had been able to get into the Chinese market since June 2021.

This recent approval of more than 40 games from outside of China, including Pokémon Unite, comes as a possible sign of relief for the video game industry in the country.
